Not many people know that if toothpaste doesn’t contain caustic soda, it only hides the smell of food and bacteria, whereas sodium bicarbonate actually eliminates it. It does however have one drawback and it’s the taste; the thing is baking soda more unpalatable than ordinary toothpaste. But, you can easily do away with this by brushing up your teeth with regular toothpaste after washing them with baking soda first.

  1. BRUSH YOUR TEETH THOROUGHLY

Don’t hurry when flossing, because cleaning teeth thoroughly to remove any food residue takes time. In fact, dental floss is used for areas where a toothbrush is ineffective. Make sure you change the dental floss for each new tooth. Also, whenever possible, floss immediately after a meal so that you prevent bad breath in your mouth.

  1. RUB YOUR TONGUE

Aside from cleaning your teeth thoroughly, an important part of oral hygiene is cleaning your tongue too. The tongue can also be a place where oral bacteria grow so brushing it frequently, especially when it turns white, is also beneficial for getting rid of bad breath. The best time to brush your tongue is in the morning, because these bacteria grow most then.

  1. TAKE ENOUGH TIME FOR ORAL HYGIENE

Many people take little time when brushing teeth. The ideal time you should spend doing this is at least 3 minutes. In cases your bad breath persists, you can even brush longer. Also, set time for brushing your tongue as well. And, don’t forget to floss. It may sound time-consuming, but it’s the thing you need to do for best results.

  1. DO NOT EAT BEFORE GOING TO BED

Your bad breath can be the result of food residues in the mouth. The best thing to do to avoid this is eat at least half an hour before bedtime. Rinsing your mouth after each meal is also beneficial.

  1. BRUSH YOUR TEETH AT LEAST 3 TIMES A DAY

Generally people only wash their teeth twice a day, after waking up and before going to bed. But if you deal with bad breath, you should consider brushing your teeth at least 3 times a day – after waking up, after lunch and before bedtime. In this way, you won’t only maintain perfect oral hygiene, but also prevent bacteria development in your mouth.

  1. DRINK WATER FREQUENTLY

Drinking water is another great way to prevent this rather embarrassing issue. What water does is rinse your mouth as well as prevent drying. Plus, water is far healthier and cheaper than commercial fruit juices. Moreover, juices are abundant in sugar and caffeine, which leads to tartar formation. Plus, they are acidic in nature and damage your tooth enamel as opposed to water, which is alkaline.
